Sydney Royal Wine Show
In claiming two trophies and 16 gold medals at the 2011 Sydney Royal Wine Show last night, family wine company McWilliam's Wines became the winner of the Sydney Royal Wine Show for the 17th consecutive year
"It may be the 17th consecutive year we’ve won Most Successful Exhibitor but the thrill doesn’t diminish at all," McWilliam’s Wines Chairman Doug McWilliam said. "As a NSW-based family wine company, the Sydney Royal Wine Show is one at which we’re always delighted to perform well."
The 2011 Macquarie Group Sydney Royal Wine Show receives over 2300 entries. Highlighting the depth of the McWilliam’s Wines portfolio, trophies and gold medals were awarded to the company’s flagship wines, its commercial-class wines and fortified wines. Among its medal haul, McWilliam’s Wines was rewarded with gold medals for the following wines:
· 2008 Barwang 842 Tumbarumba Chardonnay
· 2009 Barwang Regional Range Tumbarumba Chardonnay
· 2009 McWilliam's Hanwood Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
· 2006 McWilliam's '1877' (Top Gold)
· 2010 McWilliam's Mount Pleasant Lovedale Semillon (Top Gold)
· McWilliam's Chairman's Reserve Brandy
The result follows McWilliam’s being named Winery of the Year in the Big Red Wine Book by Campbell Mattinson and Gary Walsh, along with the 2007 McWilliam’s Mount Pleasant Maurice O’Shea Shiraz collecting the award for Shiraz of the Year.
"Our wine show success has run parallel to the company’s investment in premium vineyards and winemaking facilities. We have some of the most acclaimed vineyards in Australia and they continue to provide us with show success," Doug added.
McWilliam’s Wines premium Western Australian brand, Evans & Tate, dominated the show with its red wines collecting two trophies and six gold medals, as below:
· Trophy for Best Varietal Cabernet Sauvignon - 2008 Evans & Tate Redbrook Cabernet Sauvignon
